What is RIBBON BLENDER AND HOW IT WORKS?
A ribbon blender is ideally identified as the U-shaped horizontal trough container which contains the spiral ribbon blades known as the double helical ribbons mounted on the horizontal agitator shaft which rotates within the periphery of the U shape drum of the machine.
Ribbon blender is also defined as the U SHAPE HORIZONTAL TYPE OF THE MIXER.

SPIRAL RIBBON DESIGN
In the U shape drum, the horizontal agitator shaft is fixed in the perfect center of the trough and the ribbon arms or spokes are welded on the main agitator shaft. The ribbon arms and Ribbon blades both are a different component and are accurately designed and selected based on the type of the raw material which needs to be mixed. On the ribbon arms or spokes, the helically shaped ribbons or spiral shape blades are welded and fixed accurately with precision.
There are two sub types of SPIRAL RIBBON Design in the ribbon blender.
SINGLE HELICAL RIBBON BLENDER
In the SINGLE HELICAL RIBBON MIXER MACHINE, only one outer helical ribbon is fixed upon the horizontal shaft. The selection of SINGLE HELICAL RIBBON BLENDER is entirely dependent upon the types of the application and the nature of the customer’s raw material and final product. This type of design is used specifically where different raw materials need to be mixed with some other dry solids or liquid ingredients by gentle agitation and soft feedback of the agitator which can help to ensure the uniform coating & blending of minor ingredients in large-scale production.

DOUBLE HELICAL RIBBON BLENDER
Double helical ribbon structure or spiral shape ribbon blades in the Ribbon Blender machine are identified as the inner ribbons as well as outer ribbons. Both inner and outer ribbons are fixed upon the horizontal agitator shaft via the support of ribbon arms in a way that minimum clearance must be maintained between the outer surface of outer ribbon and the inner surface of U shape Trough of the body. Paddle Type U shape horizontal mixer is an important way of mixing the material which is fragile in nature. Likewise the principle of Double Helical Ribbon Agitator, Paddle are accurately mounted on the agitator which can generate the reverse-forward movement of the material inside the U shape shell of the equipment, and the resultant different fluid motion of the paddles which are mounted strategically helps to shape the movement of raw material inside the U shape chamber.
The selection of Paddle Design is entirely dependent upon the type the raw material and the size of the batch. Paddle design considered for the heavy-duty mixing process of the free-flowing type of powders and where heavyweight powders and wet type of material are to be mixed with different ingredients of the final product.
HYBRID TYPE DESIGN
In a certain special type of raw material the combination of Ribbon and Paddle design is also preferred. DRIVE SYSTEM OF RIBBON BLENDERS AND MASS MIXER
The main agitator shaft is rotated by the gear-motor drive system or belt pulley drive system.
The Belt pulley system is conventional and has been widely accepted because of its great efficiency to take the heavy load and while reducing the chance of any damage to the gear reducer box, coupling, or motor.
The direct gear-motor drive system also has its own advantage of saving the energy where continues type of mixing is involved.
SHAFT SEALING AND LEAKAGE PREVENTION IN RIBBON BLENDER MACHINE
The agitator shaft is extended on both the end of the U shape shell and it is bolted with the end plates on both the side. It’s very important to note that proper sealing at both the end plates must be done with the precision so as to prevent any leakages from either of the ends.
